Cancer Screening

VELscope Cancer Screening

“Head and neck cancer including cancer of the oral cavity is the sixth most common type of cancer with approximately 643,000 cases annually. About 40% of the tumors are diagnosed as squamous cell carcinoma and the 5 year survival rate if the cancer has metastasized is only 17%.” -Dentistryiq.com

The VELscope is a non-invasive, painless screening device used to identify abnormalities in the soft tissues not visible to the naked eye. If abnormal tissue is discovered, referral to a specialist is then indicated.

Our practice encourages all patients to consider having a VELscope screening done once a year. In doing so, you maximize your chances of identifying this unfortunate disease before it becomes a problem, and thereby increasing your survival chances enormously. Consult our International District dental office for additional information.
